When we dropped off Mike and Sara for their latest golf outing, we hightailed it back up Saddle Road.
Driving back down the road was fun. Engine-braking by downshifting instead of burning the van’s brakes. We decided to divert to Kailua-Kona for lunch and to fill the gas tank at Costco. Instead of the coastal highway, we took the high road. On the way we stopped to take some pictures of the dark scar formed by one of the “more recent” lava flows (geologically speaking).
